In class we have been learning about the witch trials of the middle ages. This period of history saw innocent women being blamed for events they could not possibly have caused. For example illness, dead crops, poor weather and mouldy bread were all blamed on these so-called witches. While most of the world no longer believes in witches, are there any lessons we can learn from this horrible event in history? Are there any other examples of where innocent people have been blamed for problems?

People should not be juged by there actions before all information is received.
Examples of innocence:
- Henry the 8th wives were killed for not having a son.
- people put in jail for crimes they didn't commit due to lack of evidence.
A lesson we can learn is people should not be juged for actions they did not do.
Examples of inncent people:
- Henry the 8th wives were killed for not having a son.
- people are put in jailfor crimes that they haven't committed due to lack of evidence.
- people were blamed of being a witch for having a big bowl or strange ingredients and for having scratches from there pets.

I think that all the women who were convicted of being witches were very unfairly treated.
They were made to undertake unfair tests where they either died, or killed for being a 'witch'.
They were blamed for something they didn't do and that is injustice .

I think this wasnt fair because at the end of the day just because they didnt have enough evidence doesnt mean that they arent innocent.
I think they should of thought again about this and what REALLY was going on.
I think that we are always looking for somebody to blame our problems on.
For example:
The reason the women accused of being witches were picked out pretty much at random. They local people just wanted somebody to blame all their prblems on.
And though its has nothing to do with this, hitler blamed jews and etc. for all his problems and put them through tourture as a result of this

I think that from these events we should learn that there is always an explanation for something, and we should not jump to conclusions(For example, blaming someone for the spread of swine flu to Europe, just because they happened to have travelled there)before we have heard all sides and taken an unbiased look. I think the problem with the witch hunts was that they were led by a very biased man that was determined to prove these women(and sometimes men) guilty of witchcraft.
This sort of thing has happened a few times throughout history:
-Mary I burned protestants at the stake because she was under the belief that they caused all problems during her reign.
-Henry VIII executed wives simply because he lost interest and they hadn't given him a son.
-Adolf Hitler believed that Jews and other groups of people caused problems in Germany and other countries he invaded, so murdered over 6 million.
-People have been judged unfairly throughout history and today for crimes/ things they haven't actually done.

people should have a far say in the trial insteed of being sentenced to death or any other punishment the see fit,
for example:
thousands of women were killed for being accused of witchcraft or witch related things, these things were just guessing, they were guessing they were witches
also the tests to determine if you were a witch were fixed like the one, drow or float ever human would flot unless you were really heavy but all people would float.

people should not get punished for how they look or how they act everyone is their own person
people should not get punished for how they look or act everyone is their own person
Why should you kill people if you are not shore that they are a witch just because they have marks on ther body or they have a familia/Pet.
this is not right.
you should not judge people by what they look like or how they act.
some people have had a hard life they do not need to be called a witch at the same time im not saying everyone has had a hard life but many people have had a hard life if they have bin said to be a witch.
& There was never evidence of these ladys being a witch just they were treated un fairley and so they confessed to being a witch but they never were !

People should not be executed just because of the way they look.

Back in the 1500-1750 they didn't really understand about anything. They were dumber than a 4 year old baby so I suppose that’s why most were accused. I don't think we are actually learning anything from this event as it’s just a 'witch finder general' and his friends going around and accusing people of being witches for money. You could say just like a person pretending to be a beggar trying to earn money. Theres just no point to it.

i have learnt in these last lessons that when your a king and queen you need the power and the money so that you can pay your army and your artillary so that they have weeker people because cannons can destroy buildings, ships and even there army and i think in the years between 1500-1750 the strongest king was henry VIII and the srongest queen is Elizabeth 1 and she has a name that she is the vigin queen. She has the name virgin queen because the people know her as that and it will give her respect but if she is not a virgin she can marry who she wants to.The difference between Henry VIII and Elizabeth 1 is that Henry VIII got a heir to his throne so that it can run in the family and the power will carry on.

AD 1500-1750
This period saw the British Isles become a single state, with England as the leading element. Wales was integrated with England in AD 1536 and in 1603 the English throne was inherited by James VI of Scotland. This became a full political union in 1707. In Ireland, the balance between Irish and English influence was upset by religious change and political disruption. The power of native Catholic leaders was progressively reduced both by military action and the importation of English and Scottish settlers.

I think that the kings and queens from the 1500-1700 have changed as time as gone by. Henry Vlll was more intrested on his army and money and religion but as time as gone by to the time when there was the republic it was definatly more religious as they could not do certain things on sundays as it was gods day. i think that there were more wars as time went by becasuse there was a odd one when Henry was king but people got less afraid to speak there minds and started to fight for what hey believed in.There always were 2 main religions and lots of people died because of what religion they believed in.So i think that there was a change but not that much of a difference the main problems were always the same e.g wars religion and money.
people have stopped beleiving in witchcraft from 1500 to 1750 but now it has all died down abit. i think that these women who were convicted have just been treated unifairly but we'll never know if witches exist today.

josh beaman people shouldnt be judged on looks and should be given a chance to have pets and be wierd
Everyone should be traetd fairly especially if they haven't even done anything wrong. Mathew hopkin's was a very cruel man and though i respect anyone that is strong willed and stands for what they belive in he was just bang out of order. I say he deserved everything he got he FAILED his own tests to track witches so if all those women he killed are whiches then so is he!!!!! I mean when it got to 1750 the matter was harlly even talked about!
At the beginning of 1500 - maybe around 1600 Witches became quite a serious problem and many people were getting accused of been a witch when they werent, this was unfair as many people died and were killed for something one man started off. I think it was fair when finally Matthew Hopkins had to take the test himself.

This is for the history project...
I think the witches were treated poorly and the charges and/or reasons were bogus and trumped-up. If only back then, they had the technology and knowledge we have nowadays, they would realise what kind ofmistakes they were making. Although,I suppose it's a good thing that they didn't have THAT MUCH technology, they could fry a witch in a huge oven inside 10 seconds.
